WoD era.

Two very talented artists have been so kind as to create some artwork based on two of my stories.  Hope they don't mind, but I just had to share...

First, 2headed_turtles  does it again.  And if you aren't reading her SCC story "Resistance"... What the heck is wrong with you? ;)

Been a bit since I updated my Firefly/SCC crossover story.  Fingers crossed, I'll have a new chapter up tonight! :)

Apologies to the Americans on my flist for this rant. It's not aimed at you (should go without saying) nor the vast majority of your countrymen...

I am getting ticked off at the over-priviledged, xenophobic runts who know sweet FA about other countries (probably don't even possess a passport), yet think they're entitled to mock and accuse the rest of the world's population who use the internet. Ignorant, arrogant brats...

I was moping about, being generally unimpressed with life, and then checked wycynic's journal and realized that I had forgotten about yuletide!  There was indeed quite a bit of not very good stuff, but then there were the astonishing things.  And thus, recs:

Astonishing:

Fandom: I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith
The Account Book – Perfect, and full of so many precise gorgeous details. It feels like you’re back in that world.  I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got to the bit about Topaz...

Fandom: In This House of Brede, Rumer Godden
Journeys – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this. I loved the book, and the tale told is in that same slow contemplative productive vein. It was beautiful.

Cute:

Fandom: Howl’s Moving Castle Series, Diana Wynne Jones
Five Domestic Moments - Cute.  I always felt that Sophie and Howl were such an improbable couple.  They remain improbable in this.

Cave Canem - Lovely.  The last line makes it.  The vision of the adult Charmaine is so much like me, and it's important not to be bullied by people who don't understand books.

Fandom: Imagine Me & You
Dandelion – I started this and was like, “oh! Good, someone else has written the pair to my Red Poppies, which I never got around to.” But it was better. The author has gotten Rachel, and her slightly apologetic selfishness, perfectly right. The end of the movie was shmoopy and romantic, but there was a tangled web of pain and misery that still needed to be dealt with. This one makes it cute.

All canon ships!  How odd!  If you can really call them ships, since the only one that's really romantic is Dandelion, and that's rather the least of the bunch.

I feel like drowning in a bit of Dodie Smith or Rumer Godden for a while.  *sighs*

It's snowing.  The parents left for home at 5:00 this morning.  I have the house blissfully to myself right now and the only major chore to tackle is the laundry.  Now if I can just get the muse in the mood...

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  Mine was pretty low key which was just fine by me.  The only complaint was my complete lack of internet time.  Somehow, I don't think my very Republican family would handle me skipping time with them to go write or read femslash.  Call me crazy.  I have a lot of reading to do, but at least I caught 2headed_turtles  Christmas fic for me.  Loved. It.  Go to her journal and check it out if you happened to miss it.  I insist. :)

I just got edits back for "No Rest for the Wicked" so I'll be spending some time tweaking that chapter a bit.  I also just finished edits for the next part of "Playing with Fire."  For those folks on my f-list, that one will be posted by the end of the day if Live Journal cooperates.
